The Best Hyundai Kona Tires

The Kona is generally regarded as the best sub-compact crossover on the market. When it came out Hyundai really surprised everyone by offering it’s latest innovations and styling in a very affordable package. And to be frank, there’s no other brand out there that can really compete.

If you’re shopping for the best Hyundai Kona tires, we’ve complied a list of our top picks. We’ve examined everything from price to features to mileage guarantee to come up with a selection tires to suit most anyone’s needs.

But before we get there, let’s take a quick look at the different tire sizes for the Kona

Hyundai Kona Tire Size

  • 205/60/16
  • 215/55/17
  • 235/45/18

Depending on if you’ve opted for an SE, SEL or Limited or Ultimate trim level you’re likely riding on one of the sizes listed above. The options below should all be available in these sizes, although there may be some exceptions.

Best Hyundai Kona Tires

Michelin Defender T+H

You just can’t go wrong with a set of Michelins. About the only reason not to pick a set of Michelin tires is price, and while that usually true, these Michelin’s aren’t overpriced. In fact, they’re cheaper than some of the other options on this list.

So what makes the Defender T+H so great? Well, everything really. It has an 80,000 mile tread life warranty so they last for years and years. Overall dry and wet traction is solidly above average. Plus, it’s a quiet and comfortable tire too.

Best Hyundai Kona Replacement Tires

Hankook Kinergy GT H436

What you get on most Konas straight from the factory, these tires aren’t amazing, but they definitely get the job done. Offering a well-rounded level of driving dynamics in dry and wet weather, they’re comfortable and quiet too. In fact, driving dynamics are really on par with the Michelins, thanks in part to the sticker tread compound. This does however make for a less impressive mileage guarantee of 60,000 miles. On the flip side, you don’t overpay for these by far, spending roughly 20% less for a set compared to the Michelins.

Best Hyundai Kona All-Season Tires

Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady

So the other tires on this list are also all-seasons, but these are really all-seasons. What we mean by that is they are actually what are often referred to as four-season tires because they come certified for true winter use and feature the three-peak mountain snowflake logo on the sidewall.

This means you not only get true winter grip (and safety) you also don’t have to worry about the cost or annoyance of swapping tires when the temperature drops.

But this tire is chock full of tire tech that goes way beyond just winter. For more spirited summer driving the Tredlock Technology allows the tread blocks to touch under loads, allowing the blocks to lean on each other and offer a larger footprint and a more stable ride.

And in the wet, these tires feature plenty of siping and what Goodyear calls Evolving Traction Grooves that expand as the tire tread wears. So as you loose tread depth (a critical component to water evacuation) the channels in the tire expand to maintain wet weather grip.

The tire milage warranty is 60,000 miles and, as a warning, these are some of the most expensive tires on this list. But like we said, you won’t have to worry about swapping tires in the winter any more.

Longest Lasting Hyundai Kona Tires

Goodyear Assurance MaxLife

Pushing the limits of tire life are the Goodyear Assurance MaxLife tires. Are they amazing? Well, that depends on your definition.

They aren’t the most engaging tire to drive, but these are quality tires from a tier-one tire brand meaning they’re at least decent.

And if you’re really just looking for maximum tread life, they’re the number one choice with a mileage guarantee of 85,000 miles.

Cheapest Hyundai Kona Tire

Laufenn S Fit AS

Save big and still get excellent performance – at least in most climates. The S Fit AS is a performance all-season tire that looks plenty sporty and for it’s budget price delivers surprisingly well. The mostly unbroken tread rib sections deliver strong acceleration and braking performance, while a reinforced shoulder tread section makes for solid cornering.

Wet weather grip is decent.

Where the tire has faults is in colder temperatures where it loses grip faster than most all-seasons do.

The 45,000 mile tread life warranty is also quite short, but that’s due to how aggressive the tread is.

Cheapest Hyundai Kona Tire (alternative)

Ohtsu FP0612 A/S

Do we recommend these tires? Well, it depends. They aren’t great and handling is mediocre, despite the fact that they have a relatively soft tread compound. Soft compounds wear quickly and that’s true here with Ohtsu only guaranteeing the tread life for 40,000 miles. So if you know you just need a couple of years out of a set of tires or are just strapped for cash right now, these will certainly do the job. And all for roughly half of what you’ll pay for other tires on this list.

Best Winter Tire for Hyundai Kona

Bridgestone Blizzak WS90

We recommend Blizzaks a lot, and for good reason. While they do a great job in the cold and some other tires do a little better on icy road, we love the snow traction of a Blizzak.

On those stormy mornings, you can claw through winter and do so with loads of confidence. They offer great traction and stability. They even do an impressive job in slush.
