Kumho is a South Korean tire manufacturer headquartered in the county’s six-largest city, Gwangju. It sells a simple lineup of on and off-road tires.

The Road Venture AT51 is Kumho’s standard all-terrain tire. It offers acceptable levels of noise, comfort and dry road performance. It excels in offering off-road grip as well as traction in snow and comes as a certified winter tire with the three peak mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall.

In addition to the Road Venture AT51, Kumho also offers tow mud-terrain tires, the Road Venture MT and the Road Venture MT51.

The MT52 is a mud-terrain tire that puts its priority on off-road performance and performs moderately in most other categories, from on-road performance to sound and comfort.

The Road Venture MT is the peak of Kumho’s off-road tire offerings. It’s a race-proven tire with massive and deep tread blocks to get you through most anything. It has sub-optimal performance on dry roads but managed to reach acceptable levels of quietness, comfort and overall tire tread life.

Kumho Limited Warranty

Kumho backs its tires with a limited warranty. In the first 2/32-inch of tread wear, Kumho will replace the tire free of charge if its deemed to be defective in materials or workmanship. After that wear rating and down to the final 2/32-inch of useable tread as well as within the first 6 years since the date of manufacture, Kumho will replace the tire on a pro-rated basis. In both instances, the owner is responsible for additional fees such as mounting, balancing and taxes.

Kumho Road Hazard Protection

In addition to Kumho’s limited warranty, the brand also backs a selection of its steel belted radial passenger tires with a Road Hazard Warranty. Any qualifying tire that is irreparably damaged due to a cut, puncture or bruise within the first 2/32-inch or within the first 12 months of ownership will be replaced free of charge. Kumho Tire Problems

While generally of excellent quality, in 2018 the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) did issue a recall for the Kumho Solus tire. The recall was quite limited, however, affecting just 1,773 tires manufactured between March and early April of that year. Specifically, the tires impacted can be narrowed down to the 225/65R17 size.

While limited, the recall is serious in nature as the tire tread could separate.

Kumho notified owners and dealers. If you haven’t been notified and think your tires may be affected, contact Kumho customer service at 1-800-445-8646 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4263/1-800-424-9153.
