Kumho Crugen Premium KL33 Review

A luxury-focused touring tire for all-season performance, the Kumho Crugen Premium KL33 offers comfort, long life and a sporting edge.

Pros

  • Smooth, quiet ride
  • Performance and grip
  • 60,000 mile warranty

Cons

  • Definitely not snow-capable

Designed for modern crossovers and luxury SUVs, this is an ideal tire for premium brand models – despite its affordable price.

Performance comes from a grippy tread compound as well as a solid center tread line for stability. Stability in corners comes thanks to wide exterior tread blocks that provide plenty of contact patch in when the weight transfers to the outside of the tire.

To achieve the grip that it does, the tire compound is rated with a UTQG rating of 440. That would normally mean the tires should wear relatively quickly, however, these do not. In fact, Kumho stands behind the tire and backs it with a solid 60,000 mile treadwear warranty.

Despite this performance focus, the real highlights of the tire are its long life and smooth, quiet ride – thanks to the noise-cancelling tread design.

The unique wavy lines that run through two of the interior rows of tread blocks, are slim enough to not impact stability and grip, while they’re just enough to deliver a lot of extra edges. This helps in poor weather conditions.

Kumho rates this tire quite highly for snow performance, but we have to disagree. As an all-season tire with a medium-level of performance to it, the tread compound is designed to stay soft in lower temperatures to offer improved grip. We don’t doubt that, but there’s a difference between cold-weather performance and snow.

A tire designed for SUVs and crossovers, this Crugen Premium KL33 is not designed for off-road performance – so stay on the tarmac.

While the overall look of the tire is somewhat simple, the high glossy sidewalls are an appropriate look for modern luxury utility vehicles.

Overall, we’re impressed with this tire’s promises, and the fact that it can do all this for such an affordable price makes it an impressive buy.
