Kumho Crugen HT51 Review

A solid alternative to the Road Venture AT51, the Kumho Crugen HT51 can be considered the “light” version of that off-road tire.

Pros

  • Amazing value
  • Long range warranty
  • True winter performance

Cons

  • Dry on-road performance could be improved
  • Could use more off-road capability

Stripping away the off-road capability and adding more on-road dynamics, comfort and long life, the Crugen HT51 is a popular new form of tire known as a Highway Terrain tire. Essentially it combines the features of an all-terrain tire with those of an all-season, although in the case of this particular tire, the focus is squarely on it being more on-road focused.

Designed for crossovers, SUVs as well as mid- and full-size pickups, the Crugen HT51 boasts a truly impressive warranty of 70,000 miles for P-metric sizes. Pickup trucks owners should take note, however, that the mileage warranty of LT sizes drops dramatically to just 45,000 miles.

On-road the Crugen HT51 really shines. Using a conventional all-season five-row design, the center rib is particularly rigid in order to provide better on-center feel and handling. Likewise, the exterior treadblocks are only partially cut-through, in order to deliver better handling in corners.

Four circumferential groves separate the tread strips, allowing for maximum water evacuation.

While not overly off-road capable, if the weather gets cold and the snow starts to fall, this tire impresses thanks in part to its plentiful use of sipes. Equipped with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall, it’s certified for real winter use – making it a lot more than just an all-season.

Few highway terrain tires are certified for winter use, so if you’re shopping in that specific segment, the Crugen HT51 certainly stands out.

Overall, the Crugen HT51 is quiet and comfortable with decent levels of grip. Equipped with an impressive warranty, it delivers a lot of value and is hard not to recommend.

Kumho Crugen HT51 Price

Pricing for the Kumho Crugen HT51 ranges from as low as $110 per tire to $250. Retailers may sell for less.

Where Can I buy Kumho Crugen HT51?

Numerous online retailers sell the Kumho Crugen HT51 though some of the more mainstream outlets like Tire Rack or Discount Tire, surprisingly, do not. Instead, look at Priority Tire, which also seems to specialize in some of the smaller or more niche tire brands. Walmart also offers the Krugen online or Amazon.
