Best Pickup Truck Tires

Why have a truck if you can’t make great use of it?

Not having the best tires is like having a truck bed made of wood… it makes your pickup underperform. So here are five of the best choices for proper all-terrain tires that are good on-road and off-road, have decent wear rating and are reasonably quiet.

There are more capable off-road tires and there are higher milage on-road tires with better noise-ratings, but these tires blend the best qualities in the right mix to make sure your truck has the tires it needs.

This list compiles eight of the most capable tires, with the real-world and real-life features we know real pickup truck drivers want!

8 of the Best Pickup Truck Tires

8. General Grabber HTS60

Almost all the tires on this list are all-terrain options. The Grabber HTS60 is not. So if you’re hunting for off-road grip, keep hunting.

Instead this all-season tire offers an excellent balance of all-season grip, handling, low road noise and high comfort levels, combined with an extremely attractive price. It won’t wow you in any one area, except that it will impress you overall, without you having to spend very much.

It also comes with a solid 65,000 mile warranty.

7. Falken Wildpeak A/T3W

It looks great and has proper off-road grip, as well as solid wet weather performance and great winter performance too. Generally this tire is a bargain. Plus it comes with a 55,000 mile treadwear warranty.

If there’s anywhere this tire lacks compared to the other tires on this list of the Best Pickup Truck Tires, it’s outright off-road grip. Still, it’ll tackle all but the most extreme situations.

6. Hankook Dynapro AT2

Another well-priced option on this list, the Hankook Dynapro AT2 is also one of the newest.

It’s designed for aggressive all-terrain driving but retains a surprising level of on-road handling dynamics and civility too.

The wild tread design hides the fact that it actually uses a more conventional five-row layout that you’d find on an all-season tire, albeit with some pretty jagged edges. All those angles make for excellent grip off-road.

On-road, the more densely packed center section means it actually handles has good responsiveness, while the exterior tread blocks are joined together by small tie-bars, helping support the tire during cornering.

In addition to all of this, the tire is certified for true winter use, plus it comes with an impressive 65,000 mile warranty.

Replacing the Dynapro AT-M this tire offers increased levels of off-road grip with much-improved on-road civility. It might just be the best value in the all-terrain segment.

5. Toyo Open Country AT III

Replacing the already impressive Open Country AT2, the new AT III takes Toyo’s off-road performance up a level.

The old street-focused tread pattern has been replace with something more aggressive for off-road use. As a result, there are now more biting edge, more void space to grip on low traction surfaces, and a more even distribution of void and tread as well.

As a result overall performance isn’t just better, it’s more consistent.

On top of all this, it’s now certified for true winter use, so it’s significantly more capable no matter the season.

4. Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S

Another of the newer tires on this list of the Best Pickup Truck Tires, the AT3 4S is part of a newly expanded AT3 lineup from Cooper Tire.

Brand new from the off-road experts at Cooper, the Discoverer AT3 4S is part of an expanded A/T3 lineup. It delivers everything we loved about the AT3, including impressive off-rod grip, as well as a very high level of on-road performance in both wet and dry conditions. Plus, as the 4S indicates, it’s properly suited for snow and wear the three-peak mountain snowflake logo on its sidewall as proof.

Other highlights include on-road driving dynamics and civility. Overall, it’s impressive this tire performs as well as it does off-road, because it looks so much like an on-road-focused tire.

It’s also made in the USA!

3. Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure with Kevlar

This tire brings together excellent levels of grip and on-road performance. The void space is significant and delivers lots of grip in lose surfaces.

Plus, as the name suggests, this tire is extremely durable with actual Kevlar built into the casing to prevent punctures.

LT-sizes get the three-peak mountain snowflake logo, so they are rated for extreme winter performance. Plus, those LT-sizes get 30% more steel in their construction so they’ll hold up under heavier loads.

2. Michelin Defender LTX MS

A lot of the tires on this list have some serious off-road credentials, but that might not be what you’re looking for. In that case, our top pick for a more highway-focused tire is this Michelin.

A much more premium option compared to the General Grabber HTS60 mentioned above, it’s quiet and comfortable and will last a long long time with a 70,000 mile tread life warranty (for most speed ratings). Offering some off-road grip, what really makes this tire stand out is its all-weather capability, with winter traction beyond what you’d normally get in a conventional all-season.

1. BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2

It’s little surprise to see the BFGoodrich T/A KO2 at the top of this list.

It’s a stand-out even among this group of impressively-capable off-roaders.

The all-terrain capability is exceeded only by the tire’s true off-road durability – a must if you’re serious about off-roading. The added layer of sidewall protection prevents cuts and slashes, while the tread compound itself is extremely durable.

We even love it’s winter performance! (In the past year years BFGoodrich improved the tire just enough so that it now classifies for the three-peak mountain snowflake designation meaning it’s certified for true winter use).

Simply put, there really isn’t a better option.

So what’s the catch? Well, there are few.

First up, the tread life warranty of 50,000 miles is the lowest in the segment. However, you’ll get to that milestone even with hard driving.

Second, on-road grip in the wet isn’t as good as some other all-terrain tires.

And third, it’s expensive. But as they say, you get what you pay for, and when you combine durability with grip, the KO2 is the all-terrain winner.
