BFGoodrich Advantage TA Sport Review

A sophisticated tire that also delivers plenty of performance, the BFGoodrich Advantage TA Sport delivers heightened performance for those who want more from an all-season tire.

PROS

  • Fantastic grip and handling
  • Extremely quiet and comfortable
  • Impressive warranty for a performance tire

CONS

  • Some compromises in deep water grip
  • Limited sizes
  • Tread life lower than what you’d expect on a touring tire

A successor to the popular and highly-rated Advantage TA, this new Sport model ups the performance while retaining the same luxury qualities as its predecessor and adding longer tread life.

As a grand touring tire, first and foremost, it’s designed to deliver a quality ride, and it does. It’s comfortable and quiet, even when the tread is well-worn – a common complaint with the old Advantage TA.

Highway stability and responsiveness is excellent thanks to a consistent center tread rib, which also helps deliver stable and steady high speed braking performance.

Cornering capability for this tire is more in line with a high performance all-season rather than a touring all season, thanks to the unique way BFG combines the exterior tread blocks with those inboard from them. As a result, the tire has these massive tread sections that deliver excellent handling in corners with extremely predictive responsiveness.

Thanks to advancements in tread compound and design, BFGoodrich claims a 15 percent improvement in dry handling capability.

Two large circumferential grooves help to prevent hydroplaning, however, the conjoined exterior tread blocks do mean that in the deepest water this tire is slightly less able to evacuate H2O as well as some rivals.

In moderate wet conditions these tires do perform at high level. We’d also add that the siping and other channels on the tread are full-depth features, meaning the level of grip doesn’t drop off with wear – something you’ll experience on cheaper tires.

When it comes to tread life, we listed it as a “Con” above, but we’re compelled to add some context here. For a conventional touring or grand touring tire, a 60,000 mile warranty (less common T-speed rated tires do get a 70k warranty) is lower than what you’d expect. However, we have to point out that this tire’s sporty driving dynamics are well above what you’d expect, so that’s worth taking into account.

In short, if you’re ok with trading a touch of tread life to turn a luxurious ride into one that’s also sporty, then this is an ideal choice.

Who Should Buy the BFGoodrich Advantage TA Sport?

We’d recommend this tire for anyone looking to add a more sporty edge to a premium vehicle. It delivers high levels of driving engagement and grip without sacrificing any of the ride quality you demand in a luxury vehicle.
