Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 Review

Designed for every day use, the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 is an ideal tire for light truck and SUV drivers looking for a durable and well-rounded all-season tire.

PROS

  • Comfortable
  • Quiet
  • Large selection of sizes

CONS

  • No tread wear warranty

The Dueler H/L 400 may be built for trucks, but this is not an all-terrain trie. Instead, it focuses on three main attributes, namely: fuel economy, a comfortable ride, and a quiet ride.

The tread pattern itself is conventional for an all-season with five circumferential tread sections and four circumferential grooves to help evacuate water and prevent hydroplaning.

On-road performance is above average, though don’t expect any sporting pretensions.

Where the tire stands out is in ways you might not really notice, so it’s hard to see the value in this tire – although that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It’s exceptionally quiet making it ideal for many modern crossovers (particularly premium ones). It’s also very comfortable – again, a feature that’s likely to be valued highly by luxury crossover and SUV shoppers.

Bridgestone equipped the tire with a compound that’s designed to deliver predictable on-road performance, especially under braking. It also continues to deliver the same solid performance and predictability even when the road is wet.

If there is one particular drawback of this tire, it’s that it doesn’t come with a mileage warranty – something we’d really expect from a Bridgestone all-season. This question mark is one of the biggest reasons to look elsewhere. That said, you should still expect to get anywhere from 50,000 to 65,000 miles on a set.

Also of note, some versions are available with a run-flat option.

The tire isn’t overly well-rated by consumers, averaging three out of five stars on independent websites an on Bridgestone’s own site. We’d chalk this up to consumers not fully appreciating the subtle qualities of this tire.

Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 Price

Pricing for the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 starts at roughly $155 per tire for a 17-inch fitment and goes up to over $300 per tire for a 21-inch size.

Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 Warranty

The Dueler H/L 400 does not come with a specific treadwear warranty. It does get Bridgestone’s 90 Day Buy and Try Guarantee, however, where Bridgestone will give a full refund within that period if you’re not 100% satisfied. In addition, it’s also covered by Bridgestone’s impressive Platinum Pact warranty. This covers any tires with defects in materials or workmanship for the first three years since the purchase date or four years since the manufacturing date, and includes the cost of mounting and balancing. After that time period, Bridgestone will replace the tires on a pro-rated basis up to 5 years from the purchase date or 6 years from the manufacture date.

What does HL stand for on tires?

In the case of the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 and numerous other tires, HL stands for Highway Luxury. Expect any tires with this marking to put emphasis on a comfortable and quiet ride, over sporty performance. They generally offer an incredibly stable ride and are also made for long tread life.
