General Grabber Arctic Review

General Tire’s winter solution for trucks and SUVs, the Grabber Arctic delivers excellent grip combined with the durability you need.

PROS

  • Grip in snow and ice
  • Durable for use on trucks
  • Affordably priced
  • Studdable

CONS

  • Limited sizes

Making use of a thick center tread rib and a close mesh of angled tread blocks, the tire delivers excellent stability on both clear and snow covered roads, giving you confidence in both braking and cornering. The tread pattern itself is designed to help evacuate water and slush rapidly, channeling it towards the outside of the tire in a v-pattern.

As a directional winter tire, the Grabber Arctic does give some extra performance when it comes to grip on snow covered roads. The down-size of this directional pattern, however, is that it limits your options when rotating tires as you can only swap tires front-to-back and not side-to-side.

There’s lot of siping to help the tire grip snow and use it as a traction surface against the snow on the road. The sipes even wrap over the shoulder of the tire to give extra grip in deep snow or when cornering.

The Grabber Arctic’s tread compound is, as you might expect, designed to resist freezing, allowing it to maintain traction in cold temperatures and it does great job even into the extremes. The compound makes use of General’s Duragen Technology that’s designed to maintain those properties while also resisting cuts and chips from use as a truck tire.

Built with an internal construction to handle the needs or heavier trucks and SUVs, it’s not just the tread that is durable, but physical construction too. This helps the tire keep shape over time and wear evenly too.

As a part of the Grabber sub-brand, it’s also a confident truck tire with a decent amount of void space between the tread blocks, allowing more off-road grip than you’d normally get in a winer tire. And if you need more extreme grip it’s studdable too!

Offering great performance and safety for a winter tire, the General Grabber Arctic is great step up from off-brand winter options with almost no extra cost.
