Goodyear WinterCommand Review

The Goodyear WinterCommand is built for serious grip in snow and freezing temperatures.

PROS

  • Great cold weather traction on clear roads
  • Excellent snow traction
  • Built to tackle slush

CONS

  • Limited sizes available

With a tread pattern similar to what you might find on a conventional all-season tire, the Goodyear WinterCommand has four wide and deep grooves that run the full length of the tire to force away water and slush. Plus, the rows of tread blocks are divided up in a way that allows water to be channeled towards the outside of the tire.

The center tread section is mostly solid making for good on-road performance. This makes for stability on the highway and good responsiveness to steering inputs. It does feature some slits in the center tread to aid in water and slush evacuation

For handling cold temperatures its built using a specific winter-focused tread compound. This compound resists freezing so the tire retains its grip in cold temperatures. (One of the primary reasons to get winter tires is that they actually provide superior grip on clear roads when it’s cold).

To deliver excellent traction in the snow, this tire’s tread is cut with thousands of tiny zig-zag sipes. These sipes allow the tire to grip the snow, and then use it to creation friction against the snow on the road. Not only are there sipes on every tread block, they are even featured on the exterior shoulder tread blocks to help in deep snow or when cornering.

As a result of all these features, the Goodyear WinterCommand is certified by both the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC) as tire that’s designed for extreme winter driving. Tires with this certification receive the three-peak mountain snowflake logo on their sidewall.

For those looking for even more extreme winter traction, these tires are studdable.

Providing great acceleration, braking and cornering confidence on clear cold roads and snow-covered ones, the WinterCommand delivers safety and confidence in the winter months.

Goodyear WinterCommand Price
