Pirelli continues to update its lineup of all-season tires, maintaining a focus on performance but adding in features that better suit the North American marketplace, such as comfort, tread life and better all-season grip. Included in this next-generation of options is the new P7 AS Plus 3.

PROS

  • Impressive dry driving dynamics and overall grip
  • Long tread life
  • Quiet, comfortable ride

CONS

  • Mid-pack wet traction
  • Premium price

As a grand touring all season tire, this new P7 is designed to deliver solid driving engagement, all-season traction and long life. It competes with other premium options like the Bridgestone Turanza QuietTrack, Michelin CrossClimate 2 and the Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive. (Apparently modern tire names just involve combining two words).

The tread pattern makes use of a conventional five-row layout with wider outboard shoulder blocks, divided interior blocks for better all-weather traction, plus wide and deep circumferential grooves for easy water evacuation.

When it comes to real-world performance, this tire’s best feature is its overall high level of grip, making it an ideal pairing for premium, driver-focused machines. The contact patch has been engineered to expose more rubber to the ground at all times and you feel it behind the wheel with plenty of grip and nimble steering response, plus excellent braking capability.

In wet weather, Pirelli has engineered loads of divisions into the tire with lateral slits and curves ones too. These do an admirable job, although wet performance is more mid-pack for this class of tire.

In the snow, these divisions and some mild siping do give some capability, although we always recommend a proper set of winter tires. Traction on icy surfaces isn’t as good.

P7 AS Plus 3 also focuses on durability and tread wear, along with enhanced winter performance with year-round grip, even in light snow.

As for daily driving, you’ll appreciate the whisper quiet characteristics and this tire does an excellent job at absorbing small cracks and larger bumps in the road to deliver a calm and luxurious ride.

Beyond all this, it will do the job for roughly 70,000 miles. Pirelli has always been lagging behind in offering competitive tread life, offering instead to focus on performance. With the P7 AS Plus 3 the brand now delivers an option that does both.

Is the Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 Any Good?

An excellent choice for premium sports sedans and some crossovers, the P7 AS Plus 3 is an ideal match for drivers looking for premium comfort and low noise combined with heightened driving dynamics. Wet traction isn’t class-leading, but dry performance is excellent, allowing for driving engagement without moving into a high-performance tire class. Combine this with longer tread life and you have an ideal premium all-season option that also offers comfort and performance.
