Toyo Open Country CT Review

A year-round all-season tire with all-weather and all-road capability, the Toyo Open Country CT is designed to be a no-hassle solution for commercial trucks.

PROS

  • Owners generally report long life
  • Capable and rugged
  • Surprisingly quiet on-road

CONS

  • Winter traction is decent, but not great

With sizes that are perfect for half-ton, 3/4-ton and one-ton pickup trucks, the Open Country CT is designed with an all-terrain tread pattern for go-anywhere grip and its does an excellent job at providing traction in dirt, on rocks and even in modest sand and mud. Surprisingly it’s reasonably refined on-road with low noise levels, although overall ride comfort isn’t the best.

Still, with the relatively comfortable suspensions of modern pickups and when you consider the hard-working nature of commercial trucks, this is certainly a reasonable trade off.

Off-road, the exterior tread blocs feature significant void spaces to dig into loose earth, with a curved pattern for extra grip. While on-road, the relatively compact center tread blocks deliver solid highway stability.

With the tread compound that’s certified for true winter use, and with those tall tread blocks, we’re surprised and impressed by it’s grip levels on dry asphalt.

Made of a 3-ply polyester construction underneath, and a tread compound that’s rugged enough to resist cuts and chips, these are tires designed to hold up for the long haul without needing any real attention.

As an added benefit to give this tire extra capability in cold climates, it is studdable, removing any concerns we might have about its winter grip.

Toyo doesn’t offer a milage guarantee with these tires, but on average owners report around 60,000 miles of tread life (with regular rotation), even with very hard use and heavy hauling.

How long to Toyo Open Country CT last?

Toyo does not offer a milage warranty on the Open Country CT, which is quite normal for a commercial tire. Due to the hard use that commercial vehicles undergo, you won’t find many, if any commercial tires that come with a milage guarantee. Based on user feedback, you should expect to get close to 60,000 miles out of a set with proper inflation and regular rotation.
