An extremely refined ride, the Continental Terrain Contact HT offers some light off-roading capability. With solid wet/dry grip and impressive tread life its an idea option for those who need more than an all-season tire but who don’t require extreme off-roading grip.

Continental Terrain Contact HT Review

One of our most frequently recommended highway terrain tires, the Continental Terrain Contact HT offers mild off-road grip with on-road civility, all-season traction and long life.

PROS

  • Excellent all-weather grip
  • Exceptional wet traction
  • Quiet and comfortable
  • Light off-road traction
  • Solid tread life, even for LT sizes

CONS

  • Not overly engaging to drive

A true premium product, there isn’t much that the Terrain Contact HT doesn’t offer.

The simple tread design offers robust shoulder tread lugs that hold up well under cornering in larger trucks and SUVs. They also feature small noise-blockers that connect the tread and help to minimize road noise, so it sounds just like a luxury tire.

Deep circumferential grooves easily evacuate standing water, while lateral and angled slits in the tread blocks force water away to the sides of the tire. That, along with a Silane infused tread compound makes for excellent wet weather traction. In fact, these are some of the very best wet weather tires you can buy.

Full-depth zig-zag siping offers surprisingly good winter traction, trapping snow against the tread and using it as a friction point against the snow on the road. Grip isn’t quite as good as, say, the Michelin Defender LTX MS, but it’s superior to most all-season tires you can buy. The fact that the sipes are full depth is also important, meaning this level of traction is retained over the full life of the tire – not just for a few thousand miles at the start.

In addition to offering some light off-road traction, the tread compound is quite sturdy and chip resistant. As a result it wears well over time, even when used on dirt and gravel roads.

Overall the tread life warranty is 70,000 miles fo p-metric sizes and we’re impressed that LT sizes get a lengthy 60,000 mile warranty.

One of our very few critiques with this tire (and to be fair, we understand you can’t get everything you want) is driving dynamics. Overall grip in the dry is, well, fine. There’s really nothing wrong with it, but it does sacrifice some level of engagement in order to be so good in all those other areas.

Still, as we’ve said before, we wouldn’t let that dissuade you from getting these tires. In fact, these are an extremely smart purchase you will not regret.
