That might sound like a stupid statement, but having a mud-terrain tire that isn’t unbearably loud on asphalt is something to applaud. And that’s just what Falken has built with the Wildpeak M/T, using a tread pattern that’s designed to limit noise. It’s far from silent, but it’s not nearly as abrasive as some in the segment, especially the more budget-focused options.

But enough about on-road performance, what about the mud and dirt?

For starters, the tread design features huge blocks to dig in to loose surfaces and plenty of “void” between the blocks to scoop up mud and dirt and then toss it away.

Helping to expel rocks are small ribs between the outer shoulder blocks that act to ensure smaller stones don’t get lodged in the tread – limiting grip and also impacting tire life. These same stone ejectors also work to clear caked-in mud, forcing it free from the contact patch.

Each of the tread blocks features steps on the outside that look like little stairs. These serve the dual purpose of helping to reduce rocks from getting caught, while also stabilizing the tire pattern when under cornering. The design allows for a narrower base of the tread and a wider opening, finding a middle-ground between off-road capability and on-road handling.

And finally, the sidewall of the tire features a unique element that alternates every second tread lug, working to help give the tire an extra layer of protection against slices, while also serving the dual purpose of giving extra traction in deep mud or dirt, or when aired-down.

Speaking of airing down, that’s a non-issue thanks to the 3-ply sidewall. Common (in fact, expected) amongst mud-terrain tires, this added layer helps protect against cuts and slashes out on the trail. It also allows the tire to be safely aired down, repeatedly, without damaging the sidewall structure.

The one down side of this is a slightly stiffer ride.

Extremely well-reviewed by consumers, according to user reviews at Discount Tire, 96.6 percent of current owners recommend the tire.

Falken Wildpeak M/T Price

The Wildpeak M/T retails starting from approximately $152 per tire for a 15-inch fitment and goes up to almost $500 per tire for a massive 20-inch fitment.

Falken Wildpeak M/T Warranty

Like most mud-terrain tires, the Wildpeak M/T does not come with a treadlife warranty. However, like with all Falken tires, materials and workmanship are guaranteed for the first five years from the date of purchase, and Falken will replace the tire for the first 2/32 inch of treadwear, with a prorated amount down to even the last 2/32 of tread depth.

How long do Falken Wildpeak MT tires last?

Like almost all mud-terrain tires, the Falken Wildpeak MT does not come with a tread life warranty, indicating the expected tire life. However, based on user surveys we anticipate a roughly 40,000 mile life, which is about average for MT tires. (We’ll caution that tread life can vary widely depending on how much off-road abuse as well as how much on-road use they get).
