Nexen Roadian HTX RH5 Review

Merging technologies for all-terrain and all-season tires, the Nexen Roadian HTX RH5 puts its focus squarely on useable on-road performance.

Pros

  • Great warranty
  • Fantastic price
  • Solid on-road dynamics

Cons

  • Lacking in off-road grip

With a general tread layout that’s very similar to an all-season tire, the Roadian HTX RH5 is part of a relatively new segment of tires known as Highway Terrain tires. Adapting some off-road capability, they put the focus on better on-road manners and a longer milage guarantee. The Roadian HTX RH5 is no different.

A thick central tread section runs mostly uninterrupted around the circumference of the tire, helping give it stability on the highway and a better on-center feel. As a result, it’s not only more stable on the highway, it reacts better and feels better too.

The shoulder tread blocks have been reinforced to hold up better under cornering on-road as well, meaning that the tire doesn’t just offer a responsive feel when you turn the wheel on asphalt, it maintains that grip too.

READ: The Longest Lasting All-Terrain Tires

Four circumferential grooves run the full length of the tire and help prevent hydroplaning, delivering the sort of on-road wet-weather grip you’d expect of an all-season.

Some siping on the tread blocks helps deliver slightly better winter-weather grip than an all-season. Still, as far as highway terrain tires go, we find the Roadian HTX RH5 to be significantly more on-road focused. That can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on what you want from your tire and the type of driving you do.

If you are almost exclusively on-road focused, then this specific tire really does impress. With all the characteristics designed to make it a stand-out tire for the road, it’s meany features allow Nexen to back the Roadian HTX RH5 with an impressive 65,000 mile warranty!

Nexen Roadian HTX RH5 Price
