Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Review

The go-to tire in the Pirelli lineup for truck, SUV and crossover buyers, the Scorpion Verde All Season offers solid all-season performance but does come with some drawbacks.

PROS

  • Impressive handling and performance in the dry and wet
  • Massive selection of larger sizes for premium models
  • Discounts are easy to find

CONS

  • No tread life warranty
  • Starting to show its age

One of the older tires in the Pirelli lineup it was quite a breakthrough when it launched but there are some better options now – even in Pirelli’s own catalogue.

Verde is Italian for green and so this tire was one of the earliest versions of a tire designed to minimize environmental impact and maximize fuel economy. To achieve this it was designed to weigh less and cut a smoother profile through the air, reducing drag. As a result, it requires less fuel, which is good not just for your wallet, but also for the planet.

Made using a silica tread compound it’s all-season capability is impressive, with solid grip in the wet, aided by the four circumferential grooves in the tire that help force way water and prevent hydroplaning.

There’s plentiful siping on this tire to really maximize that wet grip and even deliver some mild traction in snow.

As a Pirelli there are certain performance expectations as well, and while this isn’t going to wow anyone, for an all-season tire (and an eco-focused one at that) you’ll get some of the best handling capability around. This is due in part to a naturally grippy tread compound, as well as features like the single rib on the inside of the shoulder tread blocks. This rib helps stabilize the blocks under cornering forces, making for a higher level of grip in the corners.

Those same ribs can be found elsewhere on the tire, helping offer increases stability under braking and acceleration, as well as amplify initial turn-in response.

Despite the complex tread pattern, Pirelli have managed to keep this tire’s noise volume quite low. This is due in part to the use of the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System. This includes a layer of sound-absorbing foam that’s applied to the inside of the tire to limit road noise from intruding into the cabin.

Is the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season any Good?

If there’s a down-size to this tire it’s that, as we said, it isn’t the latest and greatest any more. There is no tread life warranty and we do expect you should see between 50,000 and 60,000 miles on a set. Pirelli does now offer both a Scorpion Verde All Season Plus tire as well as the latest Scorpion Verde All Season Plus II.

Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Price

Pricing for the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season ranges from around $140 per tire for a 16-inch diameter tire and goes up to roughly double that for the widest 22-inch size.

Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Warranty

Pirelli does not offer a mileage warranty on the Scorpion Verde All Season tire. It is, however, backed by  standard limited warranty that includes a free replacement for any tire deemed defective within the first 2/32-inch of tread wear. Beyond that, and down to the final 2/32-inch of useable tread life, Pirelli will replace defective tires on a pro-rated basis.
