Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country Tour Review

Built to enhance the ride quality and handling of modern crossovers, SUVs and light trucks, the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country Tour provides quality engineering at an affordable price.

PROS

  • Refined ride
  • Good wet weather grip
  • Well-priced

CONS

  • Could be a bit quieter
  • Winter weather grip could be improved

While Uniroyal does offer models like the Tiger Paw Touring AS with some fitments for crossovers and SUVs, this tire is more purpose-built to withstand the added weight and ride height of modern trucks like the Silverado or F-150.

That said, it’s quite nimble thanks to a solid center rib that provides highway stability and quick turn-in response. Extra wide exterior tread blocks also help control that weight transfer. Plus, they do double duty of better dispersing forces on the tire to prolong tread life.

Uniroyal does claim these tires should see 60,000 miles on your machine. That’s not class-leading, but for the price its quite good.

Handling dynamics are decent, thought not fantastic. While some of the mechanical tread design helps give the tire some sporting capabilities, it’s actual tread compound is built more for long life. This is a touring tire after all and ride quality (along with long life) are the higher priorities.

Owners should expect a comfortable ride. Noise levels are low, though we do think they could be improved.

Wet traction is quite good thanks to the four deep channels that help evacuate water, while the interior tread blocks feature wide lateral divisions that further help to force water away from the contact patch.

There’s some very mild winter grip, but it’s not ideal for winter weather and we recommend a proper winter tire if you live somewhere with a colder winter and snow.

Internally the tire is made of twin steel belts wrapped in a nylon ply. This gives it durability on larger vehicles as well as high speed stability. It’s then coated in a two-ply polyester casing to offer a comfortable ride quality for your vehicle.

Overall this Michelin-engineered and made tire (yes, Michelin owns Uniroyal) offers a refined and comfortable ride for modern crossovers with solid tread life at a decent price. In short, it’s what most crossover and SUV drivers are looking for.
