Yokohama Geolandar X-CV Review

Expanding Yokohama’s Geolandar lineup of truck and SUV tires further the new X-CV is designed for today’s luxury utility vehicles.

PROS

  • Long life
  • Wet weather braking
  • Dry weather handling and grip
  • Quiet

CONS

  • Limited winter capability

The Geolandar X-CV is designed to combine a luxurious ride with excellent performance – just what you’d expect from a modern luxury crossover.

Brand new to the lineup, the Geolandar X-CV launches with 23 unique sizes in 18- to 22-inch fitments.

“The X-CV is definitely luxury meets performance,” said Bob Abram, Yokohama’s senior manager of product planning.  “It’s specifically engineered for luxury SUVs and crossovers, and is built for long-lasting, powerful all-season traction and braking.”

Highlights of the new tire include top notch handing and braking. The handling comes thanks to a center tread that makes the tire more stable, while a reinforced shoulder helps support the structure of the tire in hard cornering conditions.

The somewhat mundane tread pattern design brings with it some real advantages, namely, that it allows for plenty of tread to touch the ground at all times, resulting in a longer lasting (and more even) wear for the tire.

The asymmetric (ie. not symmetrical) tread pattern allows for better braking from the tire, while sipes on the tread make it a solid performer in the wet – as well as the dry.

Pricing is another high point of this tire, in that it isn’t high. That’s not to say these aren’t pricier tires but compared much of the competition (at least at this level of performance) they are attractively priced.

Lastly, that design makeup of five ribs in their unique pattern also makes the Geolandar X-CV a particularly quiet tire, ideal for modern premium crossovers. While user reviews of this newer tire aren’t plentiful, the majority of those that do exist are from drivers who report being quite pleased with the low noise level of these tires compared to the Continentals or Pirellis they replaced.

Yokohama Geolandar X-CV Price

Pricing for the Geolandar X-CV ranges from roughly $190 per tire for an 18-inch fitment and goes up to approximately $300 per tire for a 22-inch fitment.
