Looking like a rather conventional all-season tire it features four deep circumferential grooves to evacuate water, which are aided by long slits between the shoulder tread blocks. The design is asymmetrical, with particular focus on a few small features that aid in wet weather grip, while also delivering a significant contact patch. As a result, the tread wears more evenly and is partially responsible for the tire’s 60,000 mile tread life warranty.
The tread is made of what Yokohama calls an “ELS orange oil compound” that has numerous benefits, not least of which is the increased tread life over past Yokohama all-season tour tires. Perhaps its greatest feat is its ability to resist changes in temperature with owners reporting impressive grip in below-freezing climates.
Further aiding both the wet and winter grip are the triple 3D sipes built into the tread design to give thousands of extra edges for extra grip. The unique arrangement of the sipes also helps to bring the tread blocks together under cornering, giving the tire overall better stability and a more performance-focused ride.
However, if there is one drawback to the tire it’s that it’s not as engaging to drive as some in its class. Still, that’s not unusual with touring tires as they tend to focus more on comfort and quietness. Those two features are especially prevalent here, with customers raving about the serene ride. Not a bad tradeoff by any means, especially considering this tire is favorably priced for a touring tire from a tier-one manufacturer.

Pricing for the Yokohama YK740 GTX tire starts at just under $100 per tire for a 15-inch fitment and goes up to roughly $200 per tire for a 20-inch size.
Yokohama YK740 GTX Warranty
Yokohama backs the YK740 GTX wit a 60,000 mile tread life warranty. All Yokohama tires are backed by a standard limited warranty that covers defects. Yokohama will replace tires free of charge if a defect is found in the first 2/32-inch of tread wear of the first year of tread life. After that point and up until the final 2/32-inch of tread wear (and within the first 5 years of ownership) Yokohama will replace the defective tires on a pro-rated basis.
