Best RAM 1500 TRX Tires

Giving the Raptor a run for its money, the RAM 1500 TRX is all sorts of bonkers. Eight inches wider than a standard 1500 the real magic comes at each corner with 13-inches of wheel travel thanks to 2.6-inch Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive shocks that can withstand severe terrain change at speeds over 100 mph. And getting to those speeds is pretty easy thanks to an insane 6.2-liter V8 HEMI engine that makes 702-hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.

RAM 1500 TRX Tire Size

The TRX comes equipped with just one wheel and tire size from the factory, with all versions wearing meaty 325/65/18 Goodyear tires.

Best Tires for RAM 1500 TRX

Nitto Recon Grappler AT

It’s not often a Nitto makes our list of top recommended tires, but that’s certainly the case here. The Recon Grappler AT just brings with it the perfect mix of performance and practicality to match the TRX.

Off-road there’s an excellent mix of jagged angles and void space to offer grip on soft and hard surfaces. The tread blocks also feature a stepped design. This gives added edges for more grip, while offering tread blocks that are both stable and offer enough void space for serious traction.

Unique shoulder tread lugs feature a staggered design that helps the tire churn through loose earth better than your average all-terrain tire.

That same stepped-tread design also works on-road to make the blocks more stable under cornering, so street driving is more nimble than you’d expect for an all-terrain tire of this caliber. Extra-large shoulder blocks also help with on-road stability and give a more agile feel than you’ll get on most all-terrain tires.

Special attention has also been paid to tuning the tread design so its surprisingly quiet. Plus, they are quite comfortable.

A solid 55,000 mile tread life warranty comes on the tire for LT sizes.

PROS

  • Impressive off-road grip on a variety of surfaces
  • Civilized on-road
  • Reasonable pricing

CONS

  • Not as extremely capable as some options
  • Some compromise in deeper standing water on-road
  • Mediocre winter performance

Best Tires for RAM 1500 TRX (Alternative)

Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

goodyear wrangler duratrac review

Designed as a commercial grade all-terrain tire the Wrangler Duratrac is a bit rougher around the edges than some AT tires out there – but it also comes with a long list of advantages.

We think a few TRX owners won’t mind the tradeoffs if they beat their truck hard.

The tread pattern is particularly aggressive, giving it excellent grip as an all-terrain tire and even offering heightened traction in mud and other loose surfaces. A particularly unique feature of the tread are the grooves along the base of the tire, giving it yet another surface for gripping.

While a 2-ply sidewall it’s heavily protected with added rubber and overall it withstands cuts and scrapes amazingly well. The base of the tread is also amazingly durable. This tire is often recommended by those who use their truck off-road all-day in extreme and remote locations.

Sure there are some down-sides like a louder on-road noise level. Plus that more durable sidewall also tends to make the ride a bit stiffer. Still, those are small drawbacks for an impressively extreme tire.

Oh, and it’s rated for true winter use and wears the three-peak mountain snowflake logo on its sidewall, which might just push this tire over-the-top for anyone in a more northern climate.

PROS

  • Exceptional off-road grip
  • Impressively durable
  • Winter capable

CONS

  • Stuffer ride on-road
  • Louder than most AT tires

Other Options

Beyond the top choices above, we can recommend two other options, both of which are from Nitto. First up is the Ridge Grappler, which is a more extreme version beyond the Recon Grappler. It’s a true hybrid-terrain tire and offers mud-terrain levels of grip with livable on-road manners – though it doesn’t go quite as far as having a 3-ply sidewall.

The other alternative is the Terra Grappler G2. This option is a more on-road focused all-terrain tire, with better tread life and handling. If you’re really not planning to take your TRX off-road much then these will be appreciated for their manners and longer life.
