CONS

A budget brand, this mud-terrain tire delivers a lot of what anyone looking for serious traction off-road would want. The simple four-row tread pattern is typical of a mud-terrain tire, offering plenty of void space to dig into loose surfaces, no matter if it’s gravel, dirt or mud. The stepped tread blocks work together with ridges at the base of the tread to flex and self-clean the tire. Not only does this allow for better grip, flinging away packed mud or earth, it also helps remove rocks from the tread, which can be a major cause of premature tire wear.

Most versions of the tire are also built with a 3-ply sidewall. This is critical in protecting the tire from slashes and sharp rocks where it’s vulnerable. It also ensures the tire retains its shape over time when aired up and down repeatedly.

When it comes to working hard, this tire is also built tough. The durable tread compound is paired with an internal structure that allows this tire to have a Q-rating for weight, meaning it can handle heavy loads. And depending on the size, it gets either a 6, 8, 10 or 12 ply rating, meaning many sizes come with extremely capable load carrying capacity.

As with most budget-brand mud-terrain tires, expect these to be louder than what you might find on a premium brand offering. The tread compound, while durable, isn’t the best in colder temperatures and loses grip and the mercury drops.

For tire manufacturers like Thunderer, trying to break into the tire industry can be difficult, so we like to see brand going the extra mile. That’s definitely the case here with a unique Free Replacement Limited Protection Policy warranty offering. Rather than qualifying statements about pro-rated replacements, Thunderer will replace any tires deemed defective as a result of materials or workmanship, with no questions asked for the first 60 months of ownership.
